How does the government contribution work?
Every year, eligible members have the chance to receive a government contribution of 50 cents for every dollar they contribute, up to a maximum of $521.43. To enjoy this full benefit, you’ll need to contribute a minimum of $1042.86 into your KiwiSaver account by the end of the KiwiSaver year, 30 June.
Eligibility criteria does apply. If you joined KiwiSaver for the first time, turned 18, or reached retirement age (65 years) partway through the KiwiSaver year, you’ll be eligible for a partial government contribution. This will be pro-rata based on the number of days you were an eligible member.
Are you on track for the full government contribution?
It’s a easy to check your contributions to date for this KiwiSaver year (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025) by logging into our Aurora member portal.
However, if you switched to the Aurora KiwiSaver Scheme partway through the KiwiSaver year, you’ll also need to check your contributions to date via your myIR portal alongside our Aurora member portal. On the myIR portal, you are able to see your employee and employer contributions (potentially not all voluntary contributions).
If it looks like you haven’t quite reached the contribution amount needed for the full government contribution, there’s still time to top up your KiwiSaver account.

We recommend making your contribution by 25 June 2025 to ensure it’s processed before the 30 June 2025 cut-off. That way, you won’t miss out on free money from the Government!
It's easy to top up your KiwiSaver account
There are a range of ways to make additional contributions, including:
Online banking: Most online banking platforms give you the option to make a deposit and one-off payments to your KiwiSaver account. The account and reference details to add to your payment are in your Aurora KiwiSaver portal, just click on the 'Make Contribution' button.
MyIR Portal: You can make payments to your KiwiSaver account through your myIR portal. Please follow the on-screen instructions to make a payment using your debit or credit card. For more information, please visit the IRD website.
